Hi everyone! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and had a great 2015. I want to thank you all for checking out my blog last year whether you’re a regular reader or just stumbled upon This Is Yna once or twice. I know my posts get sporadic at times and I’m hoping I’ll be able to blog more regularly in 2016 (and that’s as close as I’m getting to any real new year’s resolution because I never keep any that I make). Anyway, here are some of my favorites from the year 2015! It was a weird year for me but along the way I acquired a few favorites that I’ll definitely carry into 2016. I also wanted to include what I got for Christmas since the things I received made me feel very #blessed and I love sharing my favorite holiday with you (even if it’s already a week into January).
My boyfriend Gerome got this bag for me for our first anniversary last January and I wore it to death in 2015. I really need to bring it in for repairs but it’s hard for me to part with it for even a day. It’s the perfect sized bag for just a few cards, your phone, and a lip balm. It’s also in my favorite shade of light pink.
Gerome got these boots for me as an early birthday present when we were walking around Boston and the rain was soaking into the boots I was wearing at the time. He knew I’d been eyeing Dr. Martens for a long time so he pulled me into the store on Newbury St. and got me this pair. They were a bitch to break in but became my favorite and most functional shoes to wear all year round.
Like many people, I’m guilty of an obsession with Kylie Jenner. I love how she dresses and how she does her makeup - especially her infamous lips. While I’m blessed with big enough lips that I don’t need lip injections like her, I wanted to try her signature lip color forever and finally found it in Mac’s Whirl lipstick. It’s the perfect matte lip color and I’ve worn it many many times since buying it.
For my 21st birthday in April I got myself the Prada Candy Florale gift set and wore it almost every day until the bottle started running out in November. I’ve since switched my main perfume but still can’t get enough of this sweet scent.
2015 was a crazy year for my hair with many bad experiences with trying hair products that just ended up drying out my scalp and hair. I had to wash my hair less and less to maintain the health of my hair and thus dry shampoo saved my hair from looking gross. It made my hair feel and smell really nice and clean.
If I’m gonna be totally honest, I’ve probably worn my boyfriend’s hoodies and sweaters more than my own in the past year or so (I’m wearing Gerome’s high school hoodie as I blog), but I did pick up this seriously comfy hoodie for myself at some point last year since I was lacking a zip up hoodie. I have a lot of pullover hoodies but zip ups are so much easier to throw on. I loved this one since it’s mint, which is one of my favorite colors (besides black). It was perfect for lounging in all year and is my favorite hoodie that isn’t from Gerome or BC.
I read a lot of amazing books last year like Quiet by Susan Cain, which is a really fascinating book about introversion, but the most inspiring book I read was probably #GIRLBOSS. It’s very empowering for any woman who wants to be successful and learn what it takes to make their own dreams come true.
Excuse the photo quality and my face, but here’s a rare selfie of Gerome and I from New Year’s Eve. He’s my bestest friend and the bestest boyfriend and will probably be my favorite person every single year (my little sister Dani is default favoritest person). He’s been the most amazing person in my life ever since we became friends and started dating two years ago, and I was such a lucky girl to have spent so much time with this elusive guy last year. He also takes all my best outfit Instagrams so thanks for being so incredibly supportive, Gerome! ♥
What I Got for Christmas
Elf the Musical Tickets
Elf is probably my favorite Christmas movie, based on the amount of times I’ve watched it every holiday season. Gerome knew this and decided to get me tickets to Elf the musical as an early Christmas present in November. The show was really fun to watch and it was really sweet gift from Gerome considering he doesn’t even like Christmas that much and Elf is as Christmasy as it can get.
Sherlock: The Abominable Bride Tickets
On Tuesday, Gerome and I went to see the Sherlock Christmas special in theaters. It was playing for two days only with extra footage that wasn’t shown with the televised version. Gerome and I are both massive fans of Sherlock so I was incredibly happy that he got us tickets to watch The Abominable Bride.
Beauty and the Beast the Musical Tickets
Today we’re going to see Beauty and the Beast the Musical. These tickets are also a second year anniversary present from Gerome since Beauty and the Beast is ~our Disney movie~. Definitely excited to watch the musical with him!
Even though Gerome had already gone above and beyond with those tickets, he still wanted me to have something physical to play with on Christmas. I’ve had my eye on Vice4 for a while and he ended up getting it for me. He knows I use my Naked3 palette daily and now I’m using this daily too. He also got me to Sephora VIB for 2016 so this was really the kind of gift that keeps on giving.
Sephora Collection Vessel Canister Brush Set
My brother was kind enough to get me some pretty rose gold makeup brushes from Sephora. I’ve acquired kind of a lot of new makeup lately and definitely need more brushes to keep up with all the looks and techniques I want to try.
Marc by Marc Jacobs 56mm Cat Eye Sunglasses
My mother got me these cat eye sunglasses. They’re quite different from the usual sunglasses shapes I gravitate toward but I think they’re still pretty cute.
This gift from my parents has proven to be pretty useful in this suddenly frigid cold weather we’re having in Boston. It’s a very lightweight coat but easy to layer under and I love all the little details like the detachable hood and belt. I also saw that it was worn by Kerry Washington in an episode of Scandal so that’s pretty awesome since I’m lowkey obsessed with how Olivia Pope dresses.
I got new Hunter boots as a late Christmas gift to myself - they finally arrived in the mail yesterday - since I sold my old ones on Poshmark. I got them in a kids’ size 4 since my old ones were a kids’ size 5 and way too big for my tiny feet. A kids’ 4 is about a womens’ 6 and a kids’ 5 is about a womens’ 7 (I don’t know what my mother was thinking when she bought them). The kids’ version has a slightly shorter shaft which is perfect for my short legs but are otherwise exactly the same as the womens’ boots. These are going to be so useful this winter.
Thanks for reading this post! Let me know what your favorites for 2015 were and if you got gifts this holiday season, share them as well in the comments section! I hope you have a lovely 2016 and please stop by This Is Yna again ♥
