This post is as much for me as it is for you since I'm still in the middle of a never ending brainstorm about what I should be for Halloween. I've been posting every Monday on this blog so far, but I thought I would throw in a bonus Thursday post since I'm sure there are plenty of other people out there struggling to think of a costume right this very second. The way I approach Halloween is to put together costumes from actual clothing pieces I have in my closet or I shop for them with the goal of getting pieces I can wear post-Halloween after deconstructing the costumes. In this post I've put together a couple of Halloween costume ideas with pieces you can buy now, wear on Halloween, and then save in your wardrobe for more outfits to come. Happy Halloween shopping!
Secretary (Future Madam President) Hillary Clinton
Blazer: Olivia Moon Blouse: Vince Camuto Pants: Elie Tahari Pumps: MICHAEL Michael Kors
You can take costume inspiration from the future Madam President with some power suit pieces you'll want to have in your closet anyway. You can channel her already-iconic white suits from the DNC or the third presidential debate or really any other color you want since Hillary is known for rocking monochrome pantsuits in pretty much every color of the rainbow. Pair it with some sensible nude pumps and you've got yourself a presidential costume.
Kylie Jenner / Instagram Model
Hat: Nordstrom Jacket: H&M Dress: Topshop Shoes: Kendall + Kylie
Use this costume as an excuse to finally snag a velvet slip dress, one of the trendiest pieces of the season. Pair it with a satin bomber jacket, a hat to keep your pin straight hair in place (teal wig and Kylie Lip Kit optional), and some killer strappy heels from Kylie's own collection and you'll look like every model on the Internet. You'll be snapping Instagram selfies all Halloween weekend long anyway so why not look like you're getting paid for it?
Hoodie: UGG Bottoms: adidas by Stella McCartney Sneakers: Nike Bag: Fjall Raven
This is a fun way to have the comfiest Halloween costume at the party while also adding great new pieces to your athleisure collection. Think about every time you've turned down a party invite because you just wanted to stay home in your sweats - Halloween is your chance to wear comfy clothes while going out! You could ask your significant other to dress as a Pokemon (hi Gerome) or just play Pokemon Go all night long to go with the look.
Coco Chanel / Anna Wintour
Jacket: Halogen Necklace: Saks Skirt: LOFT Shoes: River Island
Chanel-inspired slingback pumps are all the rage right now so do yourself a favor by getting the shoes and crafting a costume around it. You can be Mademoiselle Coco Chanel herself or even the reigning queen of fashion Anna Wintour by pairing the shoes with a cute little tweed set and a statement pearl necklace. All these pieces are perfect additions to a business casual wardrobe so you could even dress up at work on Monday.
Eleven from Stranger Things
Jacket: O'Neill Dress: Asos Petite Socks: Nordstrom Sneakers: adidas
One of my favorite new shows and characters makes for a super cute and easy costume. All the pieces in an Eleven costume are great individually - a sturdy jacket for the fall, a sweet little collared pink dress for any other special events, tube socks to wear with boots, and the perfect all-white sneaker. Alternatively, if you have the jacket, just wear some basic clothes under it then wrap yourself up in twinkly lights to be Will's mom Joyce!
That's it for my Halloween costume ideas! Let me know in the comments who you're going to be for Halloween - and tag me on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook if you use one of my costume ideas! I hope you enjoyed this post and hope you have a great Halloween weekend! Come back on Halloween day for my next post 😈💀🕷🎃👻
