holiday gift guide 2017 | beauty edition
HEY GUYS! It's already well into November, which means it's basically Christmas! I LOVE Christmas with a fiery and slightly scary passion - I started listening to Christmas music the day after Halloween and my Christmas lights will be going up any day now. One of my favorite things to do every year to prep for Christmas is to put together a series of gift guides leading up to Christmas. I love the thrill of shopping around for the best gifts that will make my loved ones and yours smile, and sometimes I end up picking out a few things to gift to myself (oops). If you're ready to start shopping for presents, keep on reading and come back every week until Christmas for more gift guides with different themes. This week on the This Is Yna holiday gift guides, we're talking beauty! It's perfect timing since we're in the middle of the Sephora fall sale so if you want to snag these items at a discount, now's the time! I personally either have and love or badly want all of the items in this gift guide, so trust that they're going to make the beauty-lovers in your life very happy.
Let's start off with a bang and talk about my favorite beauty item that I've seen this for this holiday season. I am a big fan of agendas (I usually cycle through Kate Spade and Lilly Pulitzer agendas) so when I saw that one of Too Faced's holiday sets included an agenda, I got really excited. Not only does it include a super cute agenda with makeup guides for every month, but it comes with 24 eyeshadows, 3 cheek products, a Better Than Sex mascara, and a Melted Matte lippie. Oh, and did I mention that there are STICKERS?! I don't usually get this amped about holiday releases like this since they're limited runs but I know that the "Don't let today be a waste of makeup" motto will resonate with anyone who loves beauty products as much as I do. The value is also amazing - this is only $58 but valued at $336 (and think about how much you'll save with a VIB discount). Gift this to yourself or any of the girl bosses in your life - they will definitely appreciate it.
I raved about Fenty Beauty in my last post, so of course I have to include one of the most giftable Fenty items in this guide. While everyone loves the Pro Filt'r foundation, picking out someone else's foundation color is scary and I don't recommend it as a gift. I do think that getting someone a Killawatt highlighter they may not have yet is a great idea since so many of them work well with multiple skintones and it's just a great product that does not disappoint. You can gift the instantly iconic Trophy Wife, which is a shocking gold color that someone may shy out of buying for themselves. Or you can get my personal favorite Ginger Binge/Moscow Mule, which is a beautiful pinky copper duo that works amazing as a highlighting blush as well as eyeshadow (even my mom loves this highlighter and tried to steal it from me, so you can be sure this gift will be appreciated by people of all ages). If you know a Rihanna fan, this is the beauty gift to give them this season.
Drunk Elephant is one of my favorite skincare lines - the products are all miraculously effective and great for all skin types plus their cute packaging makes for some pretty epic #shelfies. The products are pricey but should definitely be tried out by everyone at least once in their life so I think this set from Drunk Elephant could really brighten the gift recipient's holiday (and skin). The Littles set includes deluxe samples of all the must-haves in the DE line which comes out to be a 30-45 day supply of product depending on how generous the recipient is with pumping out product. When I used the B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel to get rid of bothersome dryness and texture on my face, not only did I see results quickly, but the amazing and natural ingredients in the product just made me feel good about myself and made my skincare routine feel super luxurious. Gifting this set to someone is basically like gifting them a month and a half of at-home spa days since it gives them a full skincare routine to play with and pamper themselves with.
This is something I've already gifted to someone (you're welcome mom) and I also have a vast collection of ColourPop lippies so you can trust me that this will be a very well received gift. ColourPop is finally at Sephora and my favorite ColourPop item has always been their liquid lipsticks. This particular set that's available at Sephora comes with two Ultra Satin Lips in a dusty brick red called Catching Feels and a violet fuchsia called Misbehaving as well as an Ultra Glossy Lip in a gold and pink glitter called Charming. I've tried out the set and I really loved pairing Catching Feels with Charming on top. This gift is affordable (though not included in the VIB sale) but the quality and beautiful pigmentation of the lipsticks will charm anyone that you give it to.
Hourglass is such a luxurious and high quality brand and their holiday offerings are always amazing. Last year's marble palette was to die for and this rose gold palette is equally gorgeous. I have the Ambient Lighting Palette and use it literally every day - the powders are so finely milled and help catch light all over your face in the most subtly beautiful way. One of the powders in that palette, Dim Light, is in that palette, along with Diffused Light, Surreal Halo, Pure Effect, Luminous Bronze Light, and Hypnotic Strobe Light. Hourglass powders are very expensive individually, so to have them all in one palette is both convenient for a perfectly glowy full face but it's also a great deal.
I actually discovered this set while just perusing the Sephora website and was really intrigued by the scents inside of it. This is definitely for the friend or family member who is into discovering new and trending beauty brands. I especially liked this set since it has both fragrances and candles - usually when you're a fan of one, you also like the other. I'm most interested in the Book scent, which is described as smelling like cucumber and sandalwood and some other notes. This is one of those sets that you could give to one person or split up to gift to different people depending on their tastes. If you have a friend who loves tea with a passion they would probably be into the Oolong scent and if you have any bookish Hermione Granger types in your life, they would probably be super into the Book scent. The sample size scents are also perfect if you're keeping this for yourself and like changing up your scents a lot or travel often!
I am quickly becoming a Tatcha superfan. I just picked up the Tatcha Water Cream after hearing so many people rave about it, and I've been loving the dewy glow that the Luminous Dewy Skin Mist has been giving me for months now. This little set has all of the bestsellers from the brand so it will be perfect for any Asian beauty aficionados in your life who want to try the Tatcha line or just want more travel size samples to add to their collection. This has been selling out quite often along with the Skincare for Makeup Lovers Obento Box but if you're lucky you'll be able to catch it when it restocks or if it's available at your local Sephora. I'd recommend both sets - I can't think of anyone who wouldn't want the flawless skin that this Geisha-inspired brand can help create.
Know anyone who always complains about their eyelashes (me) but doesn't want to spend hundreds on eyelash extensions all the time? This set is perfect for those who love using mascara and go through them really quickly (or someone who is still looking for the perfect mascara and wants to test more without going broke). In this set are seven deluxe sized mascaras, two full size mascaras, and one full sized pair of false eyelashes. My personal favorites in this set are the Benefit Cosmetics Rollerlash, Dior Diorshow Mascara, and the Clinique High Impact Mascara. I also really want to try the Kevyn Aucoin mascara, the YSL mascara, and the Huda Beauty lashes, so I know this will make an amazing gift. You could definitely separate this set out and gift some to friends and keep some for yourself - if I ever received a falsies in my stocking, I'd be so thrilled.
This is for the 'bougie guy/girl who has everything' on your list. Betches love La Mer and for good reason - it's not only expensive but it's usually effective and makes your skin look perfect too. This little luxury comes with samples from the bestselling products in their line - kind of like the Tatcha set above but a bit more $$$. If you know anyone who loves Diptyque candles or always wears a little Gucci or has a Sac Du Jour as their 'everyday' bag, they'll probably love this set. This is also perfect for someone who may have worked really hard this year and deserves something extra special from Santa - just be ready to keep on gifting La Mer to them for every birthday and holiday because it's going to be an addictive skincare habit.
I wanted to include a Philosophy beauty set because they give a small portion of their proceeds to mental health advocacy organizations. I recently worked for a mental health advocacy non-profit and most of our funds were from Philosophy so they hold a special place in my heart. They're also great products that everyone can enjoy - they have skincare and body stuff too and their holiday themed products always smell so delicious. They have a Christmas Cookie shampoo, shower gel & bubble bath product that isn't in this set that smells absolutely incredible, but all the products in this set are pretty good amazing too. I use the Purity products a lot and have only heard good things about the Snow Angel and Fresh Cream lines. If you want to contribute to mental health advocacy in a small way while also gifting some lovely holiday-themed products, this is the set for you.
