It’s no secret that NYFW just happened, but it’s a little bit more of a secret that the fashion industry is finally making more of a push toward diversity on their runways. Mashable says that “Diversity is very in this year … The runways are seeing more ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, sizes and abilities than ever before.” As an Asian blogger, I’m always interested in seeing the diversity that is finally being introduced to fashion, especially concerning Asians. There are now a lot of Asian style bloggers, notably Aimee Song and Bryan Boy (a Filipino like me!), there are major Asian fashion designers like Alexander Wang, and there are incredible people in the industry like Eva Chen of Lucky Magazine. It’s especially refreshing to see clothing shown on models that represent my own race. Those were some of my favorite looks from this amazing week of fashion in New York. I loved the colors and silhouettes of these looks and am excited for when they become wearable trends in the fall (and I will probably try to incorporate it into my wardrobe during this never-ending winter). They were made even better by being shown on Asian models. I hope that Asians continue to have a presence on the runways this fashion month. Diversity should always be in.
