KathleenLights is probably one of my favorite YouTube beauty gurus even though we have absolutely nothing in common in terms of skin tone, skin type, eye shape, face shape, or anything. I still love her because she’s so consistent in her videos and I can always expect a funny and informative video from her every few days. It was her birthday last week and Colourpop released an Ultra Matte Lip sister to her popular Lippie Stix and Lippie Pencil collaboration called Lumière. Lumière 2 looked so pretty in her introduction video for it that I had to get it and also picked up another lip product from her Colourpop collaboration. Keep reading for my thoughts on the items plus lip swatches for both of them!
I ordered the Ultra Matte Lip in Lumière 2 and the Lippie Pencil in Taurus and was super excited to receive them a few days ago. I’ve been sick the past few days (as usual) so I haven’t worn them out but I have played with them a lot while stuck in bed. I already have the Ultra Matte Lip in Beeper so I had an idea what Lumière 2 would be like but Taurus is my first lip pencil from Colourpop. The price point of Colourpop makes it so hard to resist their stuff because it’s so cheap and pretty good quality for the cost. If you sign up for Colourpop emails it’s almost like getting free shipping since you get $5 off your first order.
Lumière 2 is the sister of the Lumière Lippie Stix and the Lumière Lippie Pencil. The original Lumière is described as a “dusty mauve pink” and as Kathleen said in her video introducing Lumière 2, the new one is a bit of a deeper shade. It has a very matte finish and will stay on your lips through whatever you do especially when applied on dry lips - it took a lot of rubbing just to get the swatch in the photo above off my hand even after a few hours and a lot of hand washing. However, it’ll stay put less if applied over lip balm.
This is a swatch of Lumière 2 completely dry and applied over a lip balm. Just from initial wear I can tell it’s a smoother formula than my older Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip in Beeper. It’s a very thin and resilient formula so when it dries it won’t smear off easily at all - I usually don’t get the staying power others do with this lippie but that’s because I have very dry lips and need to use balm under any kind of lip product. It’s also less pigmented over balm than without balm, since the swatch on my hand is definitely deeper. Overall it’s a gorgeous and and wearable color. For my skintone, it falls in the “my lips but better” color range.
I’ve been looking for the perfect brown lip pencil and found it in Taurus. I’ve had the MAC Antique Velvet matte lipstick for a while now and wanted a lip pencil to wear under it that was still a bit different from its cool dark brown so I could also wear it on its own. Taurus is described as a “mid-tone yellow brown” and I think it looks great with my complexion. It isn’t as harsh of a brown as my MAC lipstick but still gives a pigmented and moisturizing barrier between my lips and lipstick.
Excuse my dry lips - no matter how much I exfoliate them they’re never cute when looked at up close in the winter. The Taurus pencil looks so freaking pretty on its own - it’s the perfect 90s nude brown. The staying power isn’t anything to brag about and it will smudge off with any eating or kissing, but it is meant to be worn under lipstick. I still think it’s a great color and very wearable for anyone who wants to try out brown lips but doesn’t want to commit to a deeper shade of brown. I love my new Colourpop x KathleenLights lippies!
