Whaaat is it really August already? This is kind of crazy - I don’t even know how July went by so fast. I’ve been so busy and haven’t had time to blog much at all but I thought I’d jump back in with a favorites post. I haven’t done one of these in a while but I’ve been using a couple beauty products pretty consistently (or have been wowed from just a few uses) so I thought I’d share them with you!
ColourPop Metallic Lippies in Man Eater & Cheat Code
As someone who really wanted one of the Kylie Cosmetics Metals but didn’t want to pay the $18 price tag plus shipping or deal with trying to acquire them, I was pretty excited to see ColourPop launch metallic lip products. I got the ColourPop Ultra Metallic Lip in Man Eater (top) and the Ultra Glossy Lip in Cheat Code (bottom). Man Eater is a really gorgeous rose gold and Cheat Code is a super pretty copper - both give my lips the really unique ‘dipped in metal’ look for the cheap price of $6 each. The Ultra Metallic Lip has a very long-lasting formula that’s lighter and sheerer than the Ultra Glossy Lip, which is very thick and shiny, but both have a really intense metallic sheen especially if paired with the right lip liner (such as KathleenLights x ColourPop’s Taurus pencil). These edgy lip shades are perfect for summer but will transition well into fall!
When I’m not wearing crazy metallics on my lips I usually opt for a nice nude. MAC’s Lip Pencil in Spice is the perfect “My Lips But Better” lip color and goes so well with my favorite MAC lipsticks Velvet Teddy and Whirl. On my busier days this summer I’ve just lined and filled in my lips with this lip pencil and didn’t bother with lipstick at all. It’s a pretty enough lip color on its own and especially easy to apply when you’re trying to do your makeup on a Lyft to a meeting downtown (like I’ve found myself doing many times this past month).
For a little context into why this little butter LONDON eyeshadow duo is in my favorites, it was purchased on a whim when I needed to touch up my makeup while waiting for a Beyonce concert to start. Yes. Beyonce!!! Not sure if I’ve mentioned this on my blog yet but I started off this summer by going to the Formation World Tour and it freaking slayed. The shadows stayed on through all the fangirl tears I cried during that concert and I ended up using these butter LONDON shadows all throughout the summer. The pink is a great inner corner or halo highlight and the rich purple is an amazing all-over-the-lid or crease shade. They’re so soft, blendable, and perfect if you want to do a bold eye look.
Okay so the name of this SinfulColors nail polish is ridiculous but it’s super affordable at only $2.99 and more importantly, it’s really pretty shade of blue. I rarely have time to do my nails and have been leaning on the side of more subdued colors lately, so when I saw this color I had to have it. It’s a light blue-gray matte but has a light shimmer, making it a work appropriate neutral but not your usual boring pale pink or nude shade. The formula is also very long lasting and easy to apply, which can be rare for drugstore nail polishes besides Essie.

LOL YES I swatched nail polish on my arm but my nails aren’t looking pretty right now (not the nail polish’s fault, just my own inability to trim my nails nicely). My ridiculousness aside, I’m hoping these swatches help you see why I love these colors for my skin tone - hopefully they’ll look great on yours as well!
I have a serious love for this mascara. I luckily bought the Benefit Roller Lash in a set that came with a free travel size so I can bring the mini with me wherever I go. I have itty bitty Asian lashes which generally stick straight out and are almost impossible to see. I always look for mascaras that can hold them up in a curl while also defining them and adding some volume and this one has not disappointed me. These don’t make your lashes look fake but for someone like me, they’ve given me the appearance of actually having visible and pretty lashes. It holds the curl of my lashes for hours on end and gives them a sweet, wispy look that’s perfect for everyday. I love the thin, curved applicator since it helps me get right to the root of my lashes and is perfect for my bottom lashes.
I only have a travel size tube of this baby but it’s been so good to me during my travels and for the past few weeks. It’s always a good idea to take a travel size face cleanser with you, especially if you’re flying and even if you’re not, since full size cleansers are bulky, not allowed in carry-ons, and also an accident waiting to happen inside your luggage. I especially like the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser since it feels so soothing and smells so nice - it’s like a mini spa treatment for your face even if you’re just quickly washing it in the shower. Any little breakouts I’ve been having have been soothed by this cleanser so I highly recommend it for people with combination skin and minimal acne like myself.
I spent a lot of time looking for a suitable toner for my skin until I found this Shiseido lotion. I struggle with finding toners that feel like they’re making a difference on my skin without stinging like they’re burning my face off, but this toner feels so nice and gentle on my skin and also feels like it’s stripping away impurities in my pores. Even the bottle is soothing to look at. It isn’t drying at all but has helped combat my summertime oiliness. I just spritz a little on a cotton round and gently wipe at my face, starting at my t-zone, and it lifts residue from my face while leaving it feeling fresh, smooth, and even a little more hydrated.
This Clinique gel has been my favorite moisturizer for years and I was lucky enough to find it at a cosmetics outlet store on a shopping trip this summer for way less than it retails for. It has been a skin lifesaver during July with the crazy weather Boston has been having - extremely hot days, then cold and rainy days, then back to heat wave-esque days. Air conditioning has also been unkind to my suffering skin and this super-hydrating moisturizer has helped keep my skin from becoming gross and dry. I have combination skin that tends to be oilier in the summer but I’ve found that this gel absorbs super quickly into the skin and makes it feel healthy and glowy without adding any oily sheen.
Oops my Filipina is showing. This is another OG from my beauty lineup - I used to use this Cream Silk product as a kid and teenager visiting the Philippines and it always made my hair look and feel so nice. I stumbled upon it at a Filipino convenience store in Queens and thought I’d try it again for fun. It has actually worked really nicely to combat how dry and meh my hair has been feeling this summer so I was excited to see that it’s working the same charm as it did when I was younger and had healthier hair. It doesn’t actually make my hair that much shinier than it already is but it definitely softens and hydrates my hair noticeably after every wash. If you can find it at an Asian convenience store, it should be super cheap (around $5 or less), but on Amazon you can get it for around $10.
