My Morning Routine

image

Hey guys, happy spring! I wanted to show you my current morning routine, with mostly accurate time stamps to show how my mornings really go down. I only go into the office a few days a week so this morning routine is for one of the days that I go into work. I hope you all enjoy this potentially TMI peek into my life! β™₯

8:30 - Wake Up Call from Gerome

This is kind of embarrassing but also shows how much of a sweetheart my boyfriend is. I’ve been suffering from some pretty bad insomnia and fatigue so lately he’s been calling me to wake me up for work since I’ve ended up sleeping through my alarm on more than one occasion. It’s kind of like having the person you live with wake you up in the morning minus the living together part. It’s so much better to wake up to someone saying good morning and talking to you than just an alarm blaring nonstop in your ear, so if you ever need serious help waking up, see if a quick call from your bae or bestie fits into your schedules.

8:35 - Check Notifications

After a quick call from Gerome, it takes a little bit more of laying around in bed before I actually can bring myself to get up. I end up checking my notifications from the night before from work emails and social media to my own Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Poshmark, and Snapchat. I also do a quick check of the news - especially to see how well Hillary is doing in the primaries! #Hillary2016

8:45 - Shower Time

Once I gather the energy to get up, I pull on my big fluffy robe and head to the bathroom. As I let my shower warm up I brush my teeth (I want to lie and say I floss as well but I can’t remember the last time I’ve done so). In the shower I use Dove Go Fresh Restore Body Wash in Blue Fig and Orange Blossom and then Head & Shoulders Dry Scalp Care Shampoo and Conditioner in Almond Oil. I usually have a dry scalp in the winter so I just stick to Head & Shoulders to combat that but once it gets warmer I can play around with different shampoos and conditioners. I then wash my face in the shower (because I’m lazy) with Clinique Liquid Facial Soap. Afterward, I hurry back to the warmth of my room.

9:00 - Face Routine

My everyday face and makeup routine is pretty simple but takes up the most of my time in the morning. I usually watch YouTube videos or read fashion and beauty blog posts while I do this. First I apply Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+ and Repairwear Laser Focus wrinkle correcting eye cream. And then I take my NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in St. Moritz and use a sponge to apply it all over my face. I’m all about sheer coverage products since I like letting my skin breathe so I stick to bb creams and tinted moisturizer. After that I conceal my undereyes with NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, and I’m also trying out NYX Dark Circle Concealer to help hide my harsh eye bags.

9:15 - Outfit of the Day

I take a break from makeup to towel dry my hair off. I never blowdry my hair and this has helped with my hair’s softness. I moisturize with Vaseline Intensive Care lotion and then use the new Dove Dry Spray deodorant. I then go about picking my outfit for the day. For work this usually ends up being leggings or jeans with some sort of shirt and sweater combination since I work at a pretty casual startup. Even with a lax dress code, some days I cycle through multiple outfit and footwear combinations before I’m happy with what I’m wearing. I also have to think about what I’m doing post-work because I could easily look like a bum at work but not so much if I’m going out to dinner or drinks afterward. After getting dressed I just brush out my hair - I still don’t know how to do much more than keep it down or put it in a ponytail or a bun, but I usually just keep it down.

9:30 - Everyday Makeup

I start off again by doing my brows with my favorite brow pencil, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil in Dark Brown. No matter how much makeup I apply on a given day, perfect brows are a must. Using a dab of concealer as a primer, I then sweep on eyeshadow in just a few neutral shades from one or a few of my favorite palettes like the Urban Decay Naked3. I then go in with my Kat Von D Tattoo Liner - the perfect cat eye flick is damn near impossible for me this early in the morning but I try. I curl my lashes with a Shiseido eyelash curler since it’s the best one I’ve tried on my Asian lashes, and then I use a combination or L’Oreal Telescopic and Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. For some subtle contour and highlight I use my Too Faced Cocoa Contour palette and finish off with Colourpop #Kaepop blush in Flush’d. My lip colors change a lot but I’m definitely a lip balm, lip liner, and matte lipstick kind of girl.

9:45 - Get Ready to Leave

This is the time where I finish up looking at my blog stats, watching YouTube videos, and checking my reflection a few more times. I start packing up my things for work, which starts with grabbing my lunch (which I try to pack the night before) and a Diet Coke and putting them in my Longchamp, along with my laptop and chargers and other essentials that I carry. There are many times when I’m late on all the previous steps so this is the time I’m rushing to finish my makeup or pick an outfit but I really do try to do everything in a timely fashion. I spritz on some perfume, which is currently either Chanel Coco Mademoiselle or Cartier La Panthere, gather my coat and things, and then head out the door.

10:05 - Commute to Work

I walk for a bit to the nearest train stop and it’s a good time to let either the cold air or sunshine really wake me up. I usually listen to Spotify on my journey to work or listen to more YouTube videos. I get off the train right by a Starbucks so I order coffee there, even though I know my daily Starbucks habit is a lot of money down the drain. I get lattes on colder days and Frappuccinos or iced coffees on hotter days. I’m kind of a slow walker (I blame it on my short legs) so I don’t arrive at work until around 11 am but by that time my constantly tired body has at least taken in enough caffeine to look alive and do stuff at work.

That’s it for my morning routine! It’s pretty boring and probably takes way more time than absolutely necessary but I can’t help not being a morning person. What does your morning routines consist of? Comment down below! Special thanks to Walgreens & Unilever for sending me and Gerome the new Dove Dry Spray deodorants to try! Thanks for stopping by my blog - come back soon! β™₯
