A Very Petite Girl’s Guide to Autumn Outerwear
As you may know, I am very petite. I am only 4′9″ tall which is, as I confirmed during my recent visit to Boston’s Museum of Science, well below the average height for a woman in her early 20s. This can be somewhat of an issue in everyday life and is especially tricky to deal with when shopping for clothing. Extra problems arise when shopping for outerwear, since it’s hard to find coats and jackets that don’t drown my small frame. I did recently purchase a new fall jacket so I’d like to share with you what I looked for this season in shopping for outerwear that worked with my body type. If you’re short like me, keep reading!
Vince Camuto Faux Suede Trim Belted Quilted Jacket • $129.90
Burberry Slim Fit Quilted Jacket • $695
Belstaff ‘Aynsley’ Lightweight Tech Quilted Jacket • $595
Quilted jackets are classically chic but can sometimes look very boxy, which is unflattering for petite girls. I just got a navy quilted jacket from Primark and it works because of the ability to cinch in the waist for a more fitted look.
St. John’s Bay Long-Sleeve Anorak Jacket • $34.99
Sanctuary Belted Military Anorak • $148
GUESS Faux Shearling Trim Anorak (Regular & Petite) • $198
Anoraks are great because they can protect you from any kind of weather the fall months throw at you. Unfortunately this can make them bulky. Look for anoraks in shorter lengths and sleeker silhouettes to suit your figure.
BNCI by Blanc Noir Garment Washed Field Jacket • $69.97
Marrakech Knit Field Jacket • $158
Bar III Field Jacket • $69.99
Field jackets are a cute military-style jacket to throw on when it’s not too cold. These come in shorter lengths than many other jackets so it’s simply a point of finding one that is structured in a way that looks good on you.
Via Spiga Petite Princess Seamed Trenchcoat • $119.98
Express Classic Trench Coat • $128
Burberry London Gabardine Trenchcoat • $1,595
Trenchcoats are such a classic look to wear and are great for protecting you from the elements. When picking one, make sure to go for the shorter length trenches that can be belted at the waist to better suit your stature.
Rag and Bone Francis Peacoat – Salute • $695
Calvin Klein Petite Wool-Cashmere Blend Peacoat • $129.98
MICHAEL Michael Kors Faux Leather Trim Wool Blend Peacoat (Regular & Petite) • $139.90
Peacoats are perfect for those colder days of fall and transitioning into winter. The double breasted look is great for accentuating your torso, so choose a peacoat with a shorter length to preserve your body’s proportions.
Burberry Smoked Trench Check Merino Cape • $1,095
Factory Rayanne Cape Coat • $78
alice + olivia Kingsley Cape Coat • $495
Capes are probably my favorite kind of outerwear because they just look so pretty and romantic. Find one with detailing that elongates your frame and doesn’t drown you in cloth. Capes that you can wrap to your liking are great.
