Top Five Summer Vacation Essentials

I’ve spent the entire summer so far on vacation mode in the Philippines and with all the day trips and weekend getaways I’ve been doing lately, I’ve developed a good sense of what things are must haves when I’m on the go and what things to leave at home (or in the hotel room). Here are five pieces you should have with you on vacation this summer - whether you’re jetting off to Boracay or just exploring Boston on a staycation.

  • Carryall Bag If you’re anything like me, you’re definitely going to have a lot of stuff in your bag - makeup, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, wallet, electronics, etc. Because of this you’re going to need a large shoulder bag or tote to hold all your things (and souvenirs) while adding a nice accent to your outfit. It will also need to withstand the elements, like unexpected rain showers or getting dropped on the sand. A good choice would be the Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM in blue Epi leather and I myself have been toting a Longchamp Le Pliage Shopping Bag in Taupe

  • Sunglasses This is a given, but make sure you have a good pair or two that add the right pop to the outfit you’re wearing. Sunglasses can make or break your look, and can give you that air of mystique that’s always nice to have when visiting exotic locales. I’m currently alternating between oversized Gucci sunglasses for dressier outfits and Ray-Ban Original Wayfarer sunglasses for casual days.

  • Bracelets on Bracelets Summer is the best time to show off arm candy. I’m a fan of everything from DIY friendship bracelets to skinny bangles to delicate gold chains to chunky beads. I usually stack on a dozen or so bracelets around a slim silver watch.
  • Flat Sandals It may be tempting to use vacation as a time to show off your highest heeled sandals (especially when you’re ridiculously petite like me), but unless you’re just popping out for a sit-down lunch or dinner, a lot of vacation-y things just aren’t cut out for high heels. Long walks on the beach, sightseeing, and shopping sprees require comfort in terms of footwear, and with so many summery selections of sandals, you can leave your heels at home. I’m obsessed with my green Terra & Agua sandals

  • Skater Skirts My favorite thing to wear this summer have been these fun and flippy skirts. Flattering on any body type, these ice skater-inspired skirts are the perfect pair to anything from sheer blouses when on an island or light jackets when in the city. Topshop has a great selection of skater skirts! Here I am in Boracay in Gucci sunglasses, a Pink Manila top, my Le Pliage, Jack Wills flip flops, and my favorite mint green skater skirt: IFB Project #104 Post. What are your summer vacation essentials?
