2019 goals update

Hey friends, hope you’re staying cool in this early August heat (the climate change crisis we’re in is no joke)! Back in January, I wrote a post called hello 2019 which outlined some of my goals for the year. In the spirit of keeping myself accountable, here is an update on those goals since we’re now a month past the middle point of the year. I don’t think I’m necessarily doing great, but progress is progress and being self-aware can sometimes be half the battle.

nordstrom anniversary sale guide 2019

It’s hereeeee! The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is back, and if you don’t know what it is yet, it’s Nordstrom’s big summer sale where you can buy new things for the fall season at a discounted price. This is so much better than other sales because these things aren’t things that have been picked through on a clearance rack or unwearable because they’re last season’s trends — these are all new items (either completely brand new or re-released from previous Anniversary sales) so you can stock up your autumn/winter wardrobe. Some things are even great for the summer, so you can fill up your vacation wardrobe!

i love basic mall brands

I recently read a piece in the Atlantic called Ann Taylor and the Case for Boring Office Clothes and it got me thinking about how I still love basic mall brands of the Ann Taylor variety. If you peeked into my wardrobe, about 80% of my clothing comes from a store or brand you’d typically find at a mid-tier mall. I grew up in a mall town–King of Prussia–and shopping at mall brands has been a part of me ever since, even as I shop all the new and amazing brands crushing it in the boutique and e-commerce scene. For work clothing especially, I frequently shop Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, LOFT, and J.Crew.

pleated midi skirts

Since I’m a petite gal, I usually wear shorter skirts to play with my proportions — the more of my legs your can see, the taller I’m supposed to look. Recently, I’ve opened up my wardrobe to longer skirts and more specifically discovered a love for pleated midi skirts. I’m 4’9” so most midi skirts, petite sizing or not, are pretty full-length on me, but I still love how feminine and flowy they feel. Even though being a woman was terrible back in the day (and sometimes still is) I do fantasize about the days when women wore long skirts all the time. I think pleated midi skirts get me pretty close to that fantasy without looking like a Game of Thrones extra.

everyday beauty routine

There was a brief moment in time when I wore makeup every day just to go to work, but I quickly got to a point where I just wanted to sleep. In order to sleep in on weekdays, I’ve gotten my morning beauty routine down to a small handful of items that have been working pretty well for me. There isn’t a lot of makeup but there is a pretty consistent list of skincare items that I use every day. If you’re looking to fine-tune your own morning beauty routine or are looking for a few new products to try, I hope you can find inspiration from these products that I use every day!
