We made it to February, guys! Politics aside, it's been a good first few days of February. The Patriots won the Super Bowl, Gerome and I went on a date night to see Cabaret, and I've been productive with work. The only horrible thing that's happened are the blisters that I currently have on both of my feet 😭😭😭. I got these Steve Madden sneakers from LF Boutique's sale (I've wanted fluffy sneakers for a long time) and while they were nicely snug and comfy initially, they gave me really bad blisters on the backs of my heels on my walk to work last Thursday. Since I couldn't really walk in any of my shoes, Gerome went out to grab me these suede Forever 21 slides before our Broadway date night on Friday. Even though they were cute and didn't agitate my blisters, they were a size too small and gave me ANOTHER blister on one of my toes 😭😭😭. Eventually, I found these Steve Madden booties that don't rub against my blisters (except for the little toe blister), but I foresee many days working from home in the near future to avoid walking around too much. Now that TMI blister storytime is over, onto my January favorites! January was a rollercoaster of a month in America, but I found solace in a lot of great products that I used throughout the month. Here are some of my favorites - I hope they become your favorites too!
This palette needs no explanation. The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette is the most beautiful highlighting palette that I've seen but it took me a while to justify its cost. I finally used my yearly Sephora VIB discount to try the palette out and I couldn't be happier with it. The powders are super soft and look really good on my skin. I use the "Dim Light" powder to set my under eye concealer and my t-zone, and then mix "Incandescent Light" and "Radiant Light" to highlight the tops of my cheekbones (and anywhere else I want to highlight). It looks so nice and you can really build up the glow you have with the powders. I even use it on my no-makeup days when I just want to look alive. I love this and I'm glad I decided to pick it up!
This is for my girls in the Philippines! It's a lippie set from the Filipino cosmetics brand Happy Skin and it's a Disney collab! I love Disney princess things so I asked my brother studying in the Philippines for these for Christmas and he hooked me up. Belle is my favorite Disney princess so he got me the set with Belle and Rapunzel. The Rapunzel lippie is a pinky mauve and the Belle lippie is a honey nude. I've never tried this makeup brand before, but I really liked these products. They're kind of like Clinique's chubby stick intense lippies but a bit creamier. I like how pigmented they are but they don't feel like you're wearing too much product on your lips. They're a great grab and go lip product to throw in your bag on casual days. Unfortunately you can't get these anywhere except the Philippines, but if you're traveling there or have relatives that can hook you up, I highly recommend these. Plus, if you're a Disney fan like me, these are cute collectibles and have super cute packaging.
There's been a lot of hype around these tarte concealers, so when my Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer ran out last month, I went out to get this from Ulta. I have it in the shade "medium" and it blends really beautifully into my skin when I use it under my eyes, on little blemishes around my face, and places I want to highlight. I fully understand why people love this so much. You only have to dot the teeniest bit around your face and it goes such a long way if you blend it out with a beauty blender. The thick applicator looks really cool but I don't use it except to dot product on my face. It's very full coverage but doesn't end up looking cakey on your face - it has a very natural finish. I have really dark under eye circles and this concealer goes a long way in covering them. Excited to keep using this amazing concealer!
Drunk Elephant has intrigued me since the first time I saw their display at Sephora, so it was really satisfying when their B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel ended up working out as well as I hoped it would. This is a pretty pricey skincare product and their other products also cost quite lot, but in this case it was worth it. I used it every day in January after I got it and it really helped my skin out. Winter is always rough on my skin and I really needed help with all the dryness on my face. This is an ultra-hydrating gel with a lot of unique ingredients like pineapple ceramide, watermelon rind/apple/lentil complex, and bearberry extract. I found that concentrating this product on my drier areas as well as mixing it in with my Shiseido moisturizer really helped my face stay hydrated this past month. Even though I will forever have a baby face, I know signs of aging are showing on my face and this gel has definitely helped my skin keep a youthful hydrated glow during this tiring and dry winter.
I've loved Simple's micellar makeup removing wipes for a while now, but last month I decided to give the Simple Micellar cleansing water a shot. I love how it took off my makeup really easily - it's pretty much like their highly-effective wipes but in liquid form. I like how it's great for removing makeup and cleansing all over the face but is also very effective on eye makeup. I put some on a cotton pad and hold it down over my eye makeup so it can help dissolve my mascara and it takes away all my makeup with a couple gentle swipes. Simple is known for being kind to sensitive skin so I appreciate how this micellar water doesn't leave behind any sort of residue or makes my skin feel irritated even with the constant swiping of the product on a nightly basis. I really like this product so I'll be sticking with this micellar water plus the wipes version for all my makeup removing needs.
These earrings were a gift from Gerome for our 3rd anniversary and I just think they're so freaking adorable. I haven't worn them too much since our anniversary on the 20th of January since they're so statement, but I love seeing them sitting on top of my dresser. I also love them too much so I'm scared they'll accidentally fall out of my ears, a fate that has befallen many of my earrings in the past. I've worn them a few times for days I've had dressier outfits on and found them to be a really cute way to accessorize. I'm not really a statement earrings kind of girl and have actually shied away from buying myself any earrings for the past few years because I have very sensitive ears, so it was nice to be gifted beautiful earrings like these. Now that I know that Kate Spade earrings seem to be okay with my sensitive ears, I'll probably try out more earrings from the brand. Thank you, Gerome!
This is another gift from Gerome and one that I've worn to death. It was a Christmas gift that he gave me a week or two before Christmas and since then, I've probably worn it every other day. I've worn it out a few times but it's mainly my go-to hoodie to wear when I'm lounging in my room (if I don't have one of Gerome's cozy sweaters to wear). It's so comfy and soft and since it's unisex sizing, the smallest size is still massive on my 4'9" body. It's like a sweatshirt dress - super cute when you style it with over the knee boots! I really enjoy Hello Kitty so it was super sweet of Gerome to pick out such a cute present for me from the brand's collaboration with Johnny Cupcakes. There aren't many cupcakes that I can eat because of my gluten intolerance, but at least I can have this hoodie.
Those are all of my favorites for January! Let me know in the comments if you share any of these favorites plus any of your favorites for this past month! If I haven't tried them yet, I'll definitely look into them! I also want to give a shout-out to the ACLU and Planned Parenthood for the work they've been doing trying to hold the country together so please give them a donation this month if you can!
