winter beauty favorites

As I write this, I'm in bed recovering from the flu - apparently God heard and answered my prayers of "please let my little sister get better and just give me her flu" so ironically I haven't touched many of my beauty products in a week and my skin is a mess. Once I'm better, I'll definitely be coating my face with these favorites, which all served me well this winter when my skin was a bit less crusty and sensitive from constant nose-blowing. These beauty favorites also aren't winter-specific so I'll be using them year-round but I did acquire them and/or use them a lot in the past few months. Hopefully winter isn't going to last much longer (despite what the groundhog said) because I'm tired of getting sick and would love to go out without covering my face (and makeup) with a scarf. I hope you enjoy this deep dive into my recent favorite makeup and skincare products!

Lancôme Matte Shaker High Pigment Liquid Lipstick in Rosemantic

I've always been intrigued by the Juicy and Matte Shakers from Lancome and my mother ended up getting me the Matte Shaker in Rosemantic over Christmas break. It's a really interesting concept and I've still yet to see how the packaging and shaking function is anything more than a gimmick, but I really do love the color and the formula. It's watery and light and it dries down to be a very comfortable kind of liquid lipstick. It's not transfer proof but I don't think it's meant to be - it's just a soft matte liquid lipstick that doesn't get crusty or too cement-like as you wear it. I like how the applicator is nice and thick so I can coat most of my lips easily but the top comes up to a point so I can still have a little precision if need be. The color is a perfect everyday mauvey pink that can look good with just about any kind of makeup look - whether it's a full beat or just a concealer and mascara kind of day.

NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer in Ginger

I'm pretty wary of cream makeup in little pots that you need to dig your brush or finger into because of the germ factor, but I saw so many bloggers raving about this concealer from Nars that I had to give it a shot. I've been using my finger to apply the product and so far I've really liked the amount of coverage it offers and its texture and feel as it sits on my skin. I may even like it a bit more than the radiant creamy concealer since this is just so buttery and easy to blend out. I just take my ring finger and dab it in the pot and then lightly press it into my under eyes and just a couple of dabs is enough to blend it out and give me the coverage I need. It lasts pretty long without too much fuss and powdering and I haven't noticed it creasing too much or anything. It's also great for covering blemishes or the large pores and reddish areas I have around the sides of my nose. The color ginger has been working really well for me too - the perfect golden tan.

Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream to Brighten and Depuff

Ya girl is constantly stressed out and sleep deprived, so you know I need a good eye cream to help me look alive. This is a really nice eye cream to use morning and night and has helped immensely with my tired looking undereyes. I still have dark circles, but that's probably because I treat my body poorly and don't get enough sleep or drink enough water (I'm working on it though!). This cream helps brighten my eyebags for sure. My undereyes are always puffy since that's just the nature of my face, but there's a 'tired' puffy and an 'awake' puffy and this helps them look the latter. This cream has also been helping with fine lines, which are just creeping more and more onto my face. It's a good base to have before you apply concealer too - you reduce the chance of pulling at the delicate undereye skin when it's well hydrated and moisturized.

FENTY BEAUTY by Rihanna Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer

Gerome got me this Fenty lip gloss for Christmas and it was the sweetest thing. I hadn't planned on getting it myself since I'm still not really a gloss girl, but I did love how it looked on everyone else. I've been wearing it over a number of different lip liners and it just makes my lips look super juicy and plump. There isn't really much of a color, but the sheen is still really flattering even when it's worn on a bare lip. It also smells good and doesn't taste terrible or feel too tacky on the lips. One of the reasons I avoid glosses is that uncomfortable sticky feeling - this is a pretty comfortable gloss even though it's so thick. It's a go-to lippie if I can't commit to any color and just want to elevate the look of my lips.

Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel

Y'all know I looove using Drunk Elephant products and this winter was no exception. I've talked about this B-Hydra gel in another favorites post so I won't go too much into it, but it's like a tall glass of water for my skin. I can use all the hydration I can get and this really helps my skin feel soft and hydrated and it also helps the texture of my skin. I sometimes get really annoying tiny comedones and when I use this hydration gel, they tend to go away.

Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial

I'd been dying to try this mask for the longest but could not stomach the price tag (80 freaking dollars) but during one of the Sephora sales last year, I finally gave in. I was scared at first to use it since my skin is a bit sensitive and I heard from a lot of people that I was either going to love it or my skin was going to freak out. Thankfully, I loved it in the end. My first couple of uses HURT and I thought I made a mistake but eventually after using it once or twice a week for a couple weeks, I was able to tolerate the stinging for longer amounts of time. If it's stinging, it's working, right? Lol. If you can tolerate a mild stinging/burning sensation and really want to help out the texture and tone of the skin on your face, I'd recommend giving this a shot. My skin was a mess when I first got this and it's been behaving so well after continued use of the mask. The rough dry patches and uneven texture are pretty much gone and it's smoothed out my skin overall. It was perfect for using in the winter, a season that always makes my skin texture all weird.

Drunk Elephant Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser

This is the newest addition to my skincare collection and I've been happy with it so far. After using the Glossier milky jelly cleanser I realized I really liked jelly-type cleansers and wanted to try another one. This one is gentle enough to use around the eyes which is so helpful since I can never get my eye makeup fully off with just makeup remover but it also gives you a very deep clean. It's not stripping and doesn't dry out my skin either, which strong cleansers tend to do. The scent is pretty light and you can get a really nice lather when you use it. I've only had it for a few weeks so if anything changes in how I feel about it, I'll let you know - but so far, I love it!

Erno Laszlo White Marble Dual Phase Vitamin C Peel

This mask was sent to me by Erno Laszlo and Influenster and at first I was really confused about how to use it. Once I understood and used it for the first time, I fell in love. You take the first pot and there's a delicious-smelling citrusy scrub that you apply all over your face and then massage around for 3 minutes. Then you take the bottle and get a few drops of the serum and massage that around your face on top of the scrub for another minute. Then you wash it off and then you'll be amazed. My skin is baby's bottom soft after using this scrub - not even exaggerating. The scrub combined with chemical exfoliant and Vitamin C works wonders in getting rid of literally any unwanted texture on your face and it feels so nice - I can't stop touching my face after I use this mask. It also helps you look glowy and makes your skin have a bright, youthful, and bouncy look. The incredibly soft feeling lasts for days - it makes makeup application so easy and it also helps your skin drinks up all other skincare products you use. I've never had a professional peel or facial done, but I imagine this is what it feels like. This is something I'll do about once a week since I don't want to overdo any physical exfoliation - plus I don't want to use it up (it's $100 yikes).

FENTY BEAUTY by Rihanna Galaxy Eyeshadow Palette

Another Christmas gift from Gerome (ladies and gents, get yourself a man who understands your beauty needs), this palette is perfect for days when I want to be E X T R A. Each eyeshadow in this palette is so damn sparkly and glittery and I love it. It's not something I would have gotten for myself since I try to limit eyeshadow purchases to practical palettes but I am so happy to have it in my collection. The pigmentation is amazing in each shade and there are so many shades that look like multiple colors depending on the light. It takes a bit of finesse to work with these colors of course - you have to know how to use glittery eyeshadows in a way that doesn't result in you walking out with glitter on your face. I haven't fully mastered that yet, but it's still so much fun to play with. I got a lot of use out of it during the holidays but we all know you don't need a special occasion to look extra so I'm definitely going to be playing with this palette all year round.

Tatcha The Water Cream

This is one of my favorite moisturizers ever. I really got into Tatcha the past couple months and this is one of my favorite products. I don't like thick moisturizers that feel like they're clogging my pores so this moisturizer is perfect for me. It's watery and slippery but still feels like it gets into my skin and moisturizes it fully rather than just sitting on top of it. Winter is a notoriously dry time for my face but daily use of this moisturizer has helped me avoid that and I haven't struggled with dry patches like winters past. I also love the packaging - the little gold spatula on top for scooping out product so you don't have to touch it so useful. The older I get, the more worried about my skin I get, but products like this help ease my fears of having aging, dehydrated skin. It feels so luxurious to apply and also leaves amazing results.

Too Faced Boss Lady Agenda

My last beauty favorite for winter is something I'm not entirely sure you can get anymore since it was part of the Too Faced 2017 holiday collection, but if you can snag it somewhere, I highly recommend it. The set comes with an eyeshadow palette that includes a blush, highlighter, and bronzer as well as an agenda, a mini Better Than Sex mascara, a mini Melted Matte Liquefied Long Wear Matte Lipstick in Sell Out, and a faux leather agenda holder to keep it all together. I was amazed at the value of the product since it was all just $58. The eyeshadow palette is so versatile and the agenda actually has a makeup tutorial for every month that shows you different looks you can create with the palette. I also love the cheek shades in the palette - having it all together in one slim palette makes it perfect for travel so I'm probably taking this palette with me on an upcoming trip. There are a lot of neutral matte shades as well as sparkly jewel toned shades so you can create so many different kinds of looks with just one palette. The mini sized mascara and lipstick are great too - Better Than Sex is one of my favorite mascaras and it was nice to try out a Melted Matte. The monthly agenda was also a nice touch - especially the stickers it came with! I love the slogan on it - don't let today be a waste of makeup. Wise words to live by for 2018.
