recent favorites + memorial day weekend sales

So... I haven't blogged in a while, but that's because I was doing a lot of soul searching, figuring out life's messes, leaving my company of three years, and then finding a new and fulfilling job (oh, and turning 24 and having an early quarter-life crisis). Now that I'm finally in the settling into a new job phase, I think I can slowly ease back into things on thisisyna.com. I've certainly been easing my wardrobe away from 'can you tell I work at a startup' and more toward 'I have a job that challenges me but doesn't overwork me.' In this post you'll find some of my favorite new additions to my workwear and weekend attire as well as other things I've come to love in the past few months since I've last posted. As a bonus, I've also listed all the amazing sales you should definitely shop this Memorial Day weekend! 🛍️🇺🇸

Reformation

I'm obsessed with Reformation and my obsession is now fueled by the fact that it now has a store in Boston. I don't really live a sustainable lifestyle and 75% of my wardrobe is fast fashion, BUT I'M TRYING TO CHANGE (at least a little bit). Sustainable fashion is EXPENSIVE and I don't have the money to shop at Reformation and similar brands all the time. That being said, I love their ribbed knit things, which are a bit more affordable but still really good quality. I got the Petalo top during my trip to Dallas in February (I'm still hoping to write a post about that vacation!), which was where I went to my first Ref. I've managed to wear it probably 20 times since then and it still looks great. I just love the aesthetic and simplicity of their pieces — and the actual store is so nice to browse through.

ZARA

OKAY so moving from sustainable fashion to not very sustainable fashion, here are some of my favorite new finds from Zara! The floral skirt reminded me so much of Zimmermann so I had to get it. It's a tiny bit sheer so make sure you're wearing nude underwear and it's a wrap skirt so walk carefully - other than that, it's gorgeous, airy, and perfect for spring and summer. The pumps and the tweed skirt on the other hand are so Chanel it hurts. The pumps are very comfortable and look so great with pretty much any outfit. I've barely been worn heels the past few months but when I have, it's been these pumps. The pumps + the tweed skirt + a silk cami + a blazer = my current uniform for when I look super polished. If you like the "Chanel-inspired" look as much as I do, definitely check out Zara this season!

Shoes

I've collected a bunch of new shoes the past few months to transition to spring footwear and move away from my muddied up winter shoes. The mules from Nordstrom are very comfortable and easy to wear (currently 25% off!). I have two pairs of BP. mules now and I've worn the first one to death (is it a sign that I should get the Gucci mules? Maybe!). Since it's been quite rainy, I wanted a pair of boots to wear that aren't quite as bulky as my Hunter boots and my lace up Docs, so I picked up the Flora boots (also a birthday present for myself). I've been searching for flat, unadorned chelsea boots for forever (I'm very jealous of Gerome's collection) — so many women's chelsea boots have high heels or unnecessary details on them. I realized that my 1460s from Dr. Martens are pretty hardwearing shoes so I decided to go for chelsea boots from the same brand — they've been great to wear so far and I hope they have the same long life as my other Docs. I wanted a pair of nude flats and I found these ones at the Tory Burch outlet. Tory Burch flats are always so comfortable and this one in tan is a good color of nude for me (the usual caucasian nude found on shoes doesn't pair well with my skin tone at all). This particular pair is sold out but I recommend any Tory Burch flats with a stretchy back/sides since they're generally super comfy to walk in.

Sephora

The Sephora sale happened around my birthday so of course I stocked up on a bunch of new beauty items. The Protini cream is probably the item you absolutely need to get if you only get one thing in this grid. I love Drunk Elephant and have written about it extensively on this blog so search around if you want reviews on any other DE item. This cream didn't disappoint — it's a lighter formula than the Lala Retro Whipped Cream so it's a better option if your pores are sensitive to being covered by thicker moisturizers. In combination with all the other DE products I have, Protini has really softened my skin and helped smooth out a lot of fine lines and bumps. I haven't tried the Laura Mercier powder too much yet, but I'm still happy with how it sets my concealer and the oilier parts of my face. I purchased it in preparation for the summer, which is when my entire face tends to turns into an oil slick. The Hourglass stick was a godsend during my Dallas trip. The TSA shattered my Fenty foundation before my flight from Boston to Dallas and when I got to Texas I didn't want to risk getting another glass bottle foundation. This prompted me to pick up my first stick foundation ever and I was quite pleased with the finish. It was also much more portable so I definitely plan on bringing it for whenever I fly and need to deal with clumsy TSA agents.
