Cute Valentine’s Day Look
I never really liked Valentine’s Day (except for the post-holiday chocolate sales) until I started dating Gerome and now I shamelessly love the holiday a lot. People always say “oh it’s just a fake greeting card holiday” or “you should love your significant other every day of the year” but I don’t see what’s wrong with having another time of the year where you can be extra lovey with your favorite person. It’s also another time of the year where you and your bae can dress up for a fancy date - what’s not to love about that? Gerome always dresses nicely (you’re more likely to find me bumming around in sweats than him) but I’m still excited for him to kick his sartorial game up a notch this weekend. I have no idea what surprise date he has planned so I’m not sure what I’m going to wear yet, but I’ve still been feeling Valentine’s vibes lately. Keep reading to see all the details (including makeup) from this 90s inspired cute Valentine’s Day look!
I posted this look on my Instagram a few days ago to announce my Valentine’s Day Gift Guide and it’s a super cute 90s inspired look featuring two things from my Banana Republic + H&M haul post. The Banana Republic turtleneck is incredibly soft and warm, which allowed me to pose for a bit without a coat on. Since it’s an XS but not petites, it’s quite long on me, so it provided a nice warm layer under my skirt. The skirt was something I picked up the day before at Urban Outfitters and while it’s sadly sold out in the pretty pink and red plaid, I really love the a-line shape of the skirt and the pockets. When I first tried it on, I thought my hips made it stick out too much, but when paired with the right top, it doesn’t flare as much. Under the skirt I wore my thickest black tights and then my new H&M boots, which were surprisingly comfy to walk in despite the snow and slush all around Boston. This is the perfect outfit to wear if you’re spending your Valentine’s Day in Boston or somewhere else cold since it’s very cutesy but warm enough that your date doesn’t consist of you shivering all day long.
I wore this look this past Saturday, when Gerome and I visited an awesome art gallery at 228 Newbury St called Know No Truth. It features the art of Landon Richmond, who is a chill guy (who had a cute dog with him!) even though the aesthetic and meaning behind his art is quite dark. We picked up a few prints for ourselves and a friend, including this Alice in Wonderland piece which was an early Valentine’s gift to me from Gerome. We then wandered over to the Boston Public Library to take some outfit shots because I’ve never been inside and have always been curious about it. After that, we visited the massive new Sephora in the Prudential Center - my friend and I got kicked out at closing time the night before so I wanted more time to shop. At night, we went to the movies and saw Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which was surprisingly hilarious.
If this photo looks way too airbrushed to you that’s because it totally is but it’s not my fault - this was casually taken on Gerome’s Samsung Galaxy 6 which has a selfie beauty filter that he doesn’t know how to turn off. I know how to turn it off for him but sometimes I like seeing my face all flawless lol. Anyway, I wanted to post a selfie just in case you were curious about my makeup look. It’s a very light and fresh eyeshadow-less look with the focus being on my holy grail lashes, the Ardell Demi Wispies, and my new Lumière 2 lippie, which I reviewed in my Colourpop x Kathleenlights post. Ultra matte lips are a necessity on Valentine’s Day if you’re going to be doing lots of kissing (or more importantly, eating) since it stays on through anything. I blended in my lashes to the falsies with my new Telescopic Mascara, which I picked up after hearing Carli Bybel rave about it. This is basically my everyday makeup look but with pretty falsies!
So that’s it for my cute Valentine’s Day look! Let me know in the comments what you’re doing and what you’re wearing on Valentine’s Day! Thanks to Gerome for always taking photos for my blog and for making every day with me special even when it’s not a holiday like Valentine’s Day. I don’t know what he has planned for this weekend (except Deadpool - we are definitely watching that) but I’m very excited. I hope you all have a lovely Valentine’s Day weekend! Thank you for reading my blog and please come back soon for more posts ♥
