As always, I’ve been trying to curb my spending (especially on makeup) but of course a few things have slipped through. Thanks to /r/MakeupRehab on Reddit, I’ve even gone as far as making a makeup inventory spreadsheet to keep track of all the cosmetic products I have. Editing spreadsheets is also a very calming activity that I encourage anyone to try if they enjoy organizing things and need stress-relieving projects to start (this does not include work spreadsheets because those are obviously not fun). I now know that I own 120+ products which seems like a lot but is still considered a tiny collection to serious makeup addicts out there. Despite my attempts to exercise control, I’ve still gotten a few things from Sephora lately so I thought I’d share them with you!
I picked up this palette because I wanted to finally start trying contouring. I know I’m really late to the game but I’ve never really been big on face makeup until recently. I was finally inspired to get into some light face makeup after getting really annoyed with everyone from bouncers to my coworkers making jokes about how young I look. I’m not convinced that contouring is doing much to make me look like my 21 years, but it is adding some depth and warmth to my face that I like. This palette has super adorable packaging and a chocolatey smell that makes it seem kind of childish but I love it.
The shades are great for my medium skin tone, with two highlight shades and two contour shades that give me a subtle contour that’s not too harsh. Reviews I’ve read seem to have a serious distaste for the ‘Pop of Light’ highlight, which is a champagne pink color with shimmer, but I actually like it a lot. It might just be that I have a darker skin tone than the YouTubers I’ve seen review it, but I think it looks really pretty and atop my cheekbones. The palette also works as a neutral eyeshadow palette if you’re in a rush and don’t want to use too many products for one makeup look.
Okay so everyone loves this concealer but I am not the biggest fan? I still like it but it’s not as amazing as I hoped it would be. I picked up the deluxe sample size in Custard (Medium 1) after returning a Josie Maran concealer (which was an odd consistency that didn’t feel great on my skin). The NARS concealer does a good job for like a few minutes and then I can see my under eye circles again, unless I really pack on product. But unfortunately, if I put on too many layers, it looks too chalky when it dries. I like using it on other parts of my face for brightening purposes, but for under my eyes, I definitely prefer my Becca concealer in Toffee. I also want to try the Urban Decay Naked concealer soon.
Stila Stay All Day eyeliner is always my holy grail but after four refills of that in a row I thought I would try a different eyeliner for a change. I refill my eyeliner the most of all my products since I use it on a daily basis. I need a really good black eyeliner that’s waterproof and I knew that the KVD eyeliner comes close to Stila in its high pigmentation and long lasting wear. I’ve liked using it so far and the pen applicator is easy to use and basically the same as the Stila eyeliner but I’m finding that it’s a little less black than I hoped, but it could have just been that I picked dryer pen than the rest of the batch. I will probably try KVD again sometime in the future but my next eyeliner refill will probably be Stila again.
My latest buy from Sephora is from Aimee Song’s new nail polish collaboration with Sephora. It took me a while to pick just one of the colors since there’s also Mintfluencer and Nude for You. I was tempted to get Mintfluencer since it’s such a fun mint color but I knew that my pale pink nail polish from Topshop is drying out and I would wear pink on my nails more. I’m wearing it on my nails right now and really loving it. It’s only been a day so I don’t know how long lasting it is but it was super easy to apply with just two coats giving the perfect amount of color. I love Aimee Song so I’m excited to have something from one of her collabs.
Sephora Collection Vessel Canister Brush Set
As you may have read in my 2015 Favorites & What I Got for Christmas post, my brother actually got this for me. It’s a pretty good set of brushes with a few face brushes and a few eye brushes. The case is nicely portable (just add a piece of tape or ribbon to make sure the two parts don’t split and your brushes don’t go everywhere) and I took them with me traveling for the first time last weekend on a trip to New Hampshire. The set comes with a foundation brush, an angled blush brush, a powder brush, a precision concealer brush, and an allover shadow brush. It’s got you covered for a simple face and eye look and I just supplemented it with a beauty blender. Sephora brushes are pretty nice quality and honestly I just wanted this limited edition set because it’s rose gold.
I got these sponges to help with the application of my BB cream and concealer and I like them a lot. They’re a fraction of the price of the BeautyBlender and since I’m currently only using a drugstore BB cream, I didn’t think I necessarily needed to splurge on a high-end applicator just yet. It’s great for smoothing out product and getting a nice even finish all over my face with the thick flat side and then getting into small areas like under my eyes with the small pointy side. Only the orange one is pictured because I’ve been using the green one and it’s currently dirty. It was such a steal at $10 - I hope Sephora restocks them soon!
Gerome got this for me for Christmas and I still don’t think I’ve played with half the shades yet. They’re all so pretty and vibrant with a nice mix of matte and shimmer and neutral and bright. A lot of reviews I’ve read on this limited edition palette complained about fallout from the shadows, poor construction of the packaging, and inability to blend. I haven’t come across any of these issues yet. I use concealer as an eyeshadow primer and don’t get any fallout, just some smudging on my bottom lash line, but that unfortunately happens with all shadows because of my eye shape.
I took Vice4 along with me on my trip last weekend in the pouch that comes with it and even through the long car rides and being thrown around in my bag, none of the pans fell out and the pretty oil slick casing didn’t sustain any damage. I’m also finding the shadows as easy to blend as those in my Naked3. Can’t wait to keep playing with this pretty palette!
That’s it for what I’ve gotten from Sephora lately! I’m definitely trying to buy less makeup and commit to using up what I have but my resolve is only so strong. How do you feel about the products I that bought? Comment down below what you’ve gotten from Sephora lately and maybe I’ll break my no-buy commitment to try them out haha. Thanks for stopping by my blog - hope to see you soon!
